Bear Scent
Big Bear Scents
I shot my first bear in 1999 in the High Sierra Mts just
outside Coleville CA.  After harvesting a pretty big bear I
gave it to one of the local people.

I moved back from California in 2000 after completing a
4yr tour in the Marine Corps. I now live in central WI. I
purchased some property that holds a great bear
population, and the bear hunting obsession began.

I live in bear zone C in Wisconsin, this is a no dog unit and
also a unit that takes 5 yrs to draw a tag. The other units
average 7-9yrs to draw. So when I'm not hunting myself, I
run baits for other people. I started out baiting for a few
friends back in 2000 and that has turned into my phone
ringing off the hook with people wanting me to run baits
and guide for them. Now I take between 4-6 people each
year and have a 100% success rate of putting people on
bears.

In the spring of 2009 we will be building a new cabin for
hunters and having a more formal guide service.

Other than bear hunting I love deer hunting. In 2005 I
became the president of the NorthWest Branch Quality
Deer Management Association(QDMA). I truly believe in
harvesting quality animals through strict management
practices, both bear and deer. With the exception of new
hunters. They need to take the opportunity to harvest an
animal no matter what the size, the goal is to make hunting
fun.  Also I am a certified Glock armour and certified DPMS
rifle armour.

I hunt mainly archery but I still enjoy some rifle hunting,
usually I take my muzzle loader instead of the rifle. I shoot
Mathews and love them. However, I have shot some
Bowtechs and Hoyts that were pretty nice.
"I did a test bait site after you dropped off the scent spray. I set two new baits a couple hundred yards apart and filled the stumps
with the exact same type and amount of bait(cookie dough, bread, and blackberry jam) I sprayed down the first bait(bait #1) with
Big Bear Scent shellfish and the other bait (bait#2)with liquid smoke.

I used cuddeback cameras on each bait to monitor the progress. The shellfish bait (bait #1)was hit within 4hrs of being set!!! Not
so good for bait #2 which did not get hit until day # 2. I thought for sure that the bear that went to bait #1 would have found bait #2
shortly after, but that was not the case."
